In New Orleans

Willy DeVille passed away in 2009, leaving behind a rich, varied musical history. DeVille, with his band Mink deVille, brought heart and art and intelligence to punk-rock, performing ballads from swamp-pop, funk, soul and blues traditions during the punk era.
His approach to songwriting melded classic pop with various Americana sources. In the late 1980s he relocated to New Orleans, recording covers of classic songs with the local legends including Dr. John, The Meters, Eddie Bo and Allen Touissant.
Here we have the best of the New Orleans sessions in one place, including the entire 1990 album, Victory Mixture, something of a lost classic.
The New Orleans years were troubled times for DeVille personally, but musically he triumphed, shining a light, also, on some of the key players from an era, style and geographic location that has done some much to inform American funk, soul, jazz and roots music.
