Wellington Jazz Festival 2016: First Announcement – Wayne Shorter Quartet (June 8)

wayneDuring the New Zealand Festival we get a clue about the upcoming Jazz Festival. This year the news is that Wayne Shorter (and his quartet, featuring the incredible Brian Blade) will be performing at Wellington’s Opera House on June 8.

Shorter, Blade, John Patitucci and Danilo Perez will put on an incredible show, Shorter, 82, is in fine form as recent live album, Without A Net (featuring this quarter) shows.

Shorter’s career is storied. Alongside his own works as a leader he was part of one of the important Miles Davis line-ups, he also collaborated with a range of pop and rock musicians, including crucial contributions to the canons of Joni Mitchell and Steely Dan.

In a career where he has always pushed forward, no nostalgia act, this is a chance to see one of the last of the true jazz greats; living legend.dshort

For more details see the Jazz Festival’s official site.

The festival’s full programme (June 8-12, 2016) will be made available on April 12. Earlybird tickets for the Shorter Quartet are available from April 30. You can follow @wellijazzfest on Twitter.
