As the lead singer/songwriter for Lucid 3 Victoria Girling-Butcher certainly proved herself as a talented writer and performer. It was, of course, a matter of time before she offered a solo album.
Thankfully, some time was in fact taken, so this is not just another Lucid 3 album with its main player standing out front alone. Here Girling-Butcher has a go at some pop songs, she still rocks-out with fuzzy, buzzing riffs and of course she continues to sing in a Kiwi accent; something that nowhere near enough New Zealand performers do.
For some odd reason so many of our singers are far too informed by what they hear on the radio rather than what they are hearing on the street. I’ve always admired Victoria Girling-Butcher for that. And she continues to impress with her writing and playing. This is an early favourite for me for 2012.
