David Roy Williams (DRW) has just announced that Alejandro Escovedo will tour New Zealand for the first time – with three shows here in early 2019 (Friday March 15, Auckland’s Tuning Fork, Saturday March 16, Wellington’s Caroline and Sunday March 17, Christchurch’s Blue Smoke) as part of a full Australian/NZ tour.
The legendary singer/songwriter is a survivor. He continues to create enduring music – his catalogue an embarrassment of riches; his songs recorded by Ryan Adams, Steve Earle, Calexico, Cowboy Junkies, Lucinda Williams and many more.
There are tribute albums and many collaborations. And there’s 11 solo albums to check out ahead of the tour.
He’s also part of one of the most impressive musical families around – his brother Pete is a percussionist (Santana) and his niece is Sheila E.
Escovedo was doing cow-punk and alt-country before the taglines existed. He’s one of the great singer/songwriters of the last quarter-century+.
So don’t miss this chance to see one of music’s true greats.
