Ahead of the full-lengther here’s a new 2-track EP from Theo Parrish. Only two tracks – but 20 minutes of groove; that makes it worth mentioning – Parrish has roots in Chicago’s early house scene and Detroit’s classic techno feel and he combines those separate vestiges to make is own trademark, a swirl of down-tempo funk with the repetitive mantra of the title track (“let me see your footwork baby”) it’s both an urge to dance and also sits inside a classic low-key house vamp, a bit of restraint on offer too. We get even deeper down into this house groove with Tympanic Warfare, a sizzle of cymbal and a squelch of bass, slippery ruminations as the electro-funk feel sits determinedly under/inside the groove.
Get the vinyl 12” and then wait for more from Parrish when the full-length album arrives. This is great stuff though, two hypnotic, hook-filled dance tunes here.
