Neneh Cherry, Blank Project (2014)
One of my albums of the year – possibly my absolute number one, certainly a Top 3 candidate. And the nicest surprise of the year, I wasn’t anticipating (wonderful) new music from Neneh Cherry. I’ve just bought the LP because I like to have one or two of my absolute favourites of any year on vinyl – I live with the Mp3s as a tool of the trade, and when the review has died down, gone, filed it’s nice to create some space and then revisit the album – start to enjoy it again as something that’s not any sort of assignment. Well, the decision to finally fork for this record – I’ve been eyeing it up for months – was brought about by the news that Neneh Cherry is playing New Zealand shows next year. And this is really exciting to me. I’ve already gushed about the album here (and then again a little bit here). So I’ll leave it at that. One of the best of the year. So great to have her back. And then next year we’ll have the chance to see these songs live. Can’t wait!
