Fine Young Cannibals, The Raw & The Cooked (1988)
My mum had the tape. And it was one of the tapes – one of about eight or nine – that went round and round, repeat after repeat. Obviously She Drives Me Crazy would drive almost anyone crazy now and Good Thing took a beating too – but I think this album is pretty great. I say that having not listened to it right through in years. And I’m mildly hesitant now as I’m writing this having only recently picked up a copy on vinyl – and having not (yet) played it. But who are we kidding – I didn’t entirely buy this to play. I bought this to remind myself of the time when I listened to it a load. I liked it then. I’ll like aspects of it now. Oh, and the other reason I bought it – fills a hole in my collection for this week’s 1980s DJ set I’m doing down at the Old Bailey. I often find you go back to things like this and really enjoy them – at least once or twice…then you sell them back to where you got them or give them away to whoever wants them.
