Nirvana, MTV Unplugged In New York (1994)
The only Nirvana album I had on vinyl (until buying this recently) is Bleach. I love that record – and still play it a bit. I love the other albums but they’re played-out for me. I can’t really imagine wanting to play them through beginning to end ever again. Not that they’ve dated or that I’m no longer into the music – I’m just happy with my memories. But I bought this one because I’d always sorta wanted to have this one. It’s something that feels like the perfect, fitting swansong (which is ultimately what it was/is) but it also sits outside of Nirvana in a way – all the covers, the softer textures/arrangements. Anyway, it’s a helluva great set. And it plays that way still. Many happy (and some sad) memories came flooding back when I picked the shrink-wrap from this one and gave it that first whirl. First time listening to it in years and fucking years…a really lovely record (still).
Sample Track: All Apologies
