Dennis Wilson, Pacific Ocean Blue (1977)
Sometimes you just want the album – all the extras become too daunting. I had the 2008 reissue of this, now considered a classic/lost-classic, ripe for rediscovery and all of that. But I found all of the extra material just too much – so to have the original album, the one and only album released in his lifetime by Dennis Wilson of The Beach Boys is a real treat; a recent find. And it really is (still) wonderful; the sort of album you can take some pride in having in your collection – in introducing it to people. You’ll always win someone over with this – Beach Boys haters, people convinced that Dennis was the one along for the ride and couldn’t pull his weight, people oblivious to this…so many great songs on this album. His heart and soul is in this record. And on this record. His heart. And soul.
Sample Track: River Song
