The Vinyl Countdown # 913

John Lennon, Imagine (1971)
Imagione
I don’t reckon I ever gave this one a fair go. I do love a lot of John Lennon’s material post-Beatles – how could you not? Unless you weren’t a Beatles fan at all, ever. In which case why are you reading this anyway? I think maybe I dismissed this album  because I was such a Paul fan – silly reason to dismiss it. Actually, more likely, it was being so totally over the title song. I did used to have this album on CD – but I didn’t play it all that much. Knew the best songs from compilations already. Funny though,  got the LP recently and it just clicked. Love it. A pretty wonderful record. They were all on such a hot-streak post-Beatles huh? Even, in his own way, Ringo too…but particularly John and Paul.

Sample Track: How Do You Sleep?

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown

I love the title track these days. It’s had a breather now that everyone and his parrot has stopped covering it. It’s so specific in its demands yet so restrained in the way it makes them. And lest we forget, it’s just three minutes long. He was a communicator of incomparable gifts and he never let his virtuosity get in the way.
