The Vinyl Countdown # 871

Earl Hines, The Legendary Little Theater Concert Of 1964, Volume 1 (1979)
Ear-asEarl “Fatha” Hines, great pianist, but I only own this LP, I haven’t hunted out anything much else of his. Had a couple of CDs along the way. I bought this, though, about a decade ago I guess. My folks had surprised me with a birthday visit, bought me one of those cheap, plastic replica record-player/radios. Not great for playing your new 180g release – but at the time it really suited our little place, and it got me digging out some cool old records from the second-hand stores. At that time, particularly, Real Groovy in Wellington (R.I.P). They had some great jazz and blues LPs in particular and the weekend I got the red record-player (I had been without any sort of turntable for many years at that point) we went shopping to pick up a few new/old favourites. And this record was just right under the candlelight that night. And it’s been just right ever since, whenever I dig it out, find it, and play it. For some years, just recently, this had been on loan to a friend. I’ve only just received it back. It felt like the return, itself, of an old friend.
EarlThe Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
