The Waikikis, Lennon & McCartney – Hawaiian Style (1968)
Not even a Hawaiian band, The Waikikis were in fact a Belgian studio band, but their albums (mostly) feature Hawaii in the title and a pervading Hawaiian theme. I bought this the other day at a Record Fair, because I’m a sucker for these sorts of things…instrumental-cheese. But, hey, guess what, I took this home and put it on and it wasn’t just kitsch – okay, there was that, but I really did dig this. Nuts? Maybe. But hey…Graham Reid wrote a great piece (as he so often does) that serves as decent intro/explanation. Anyway, I’ll be giving this a few spins. Probably when no else is around. But no shame.
Sample Track: Nowhere Man
