Julian Lennon, Valotte (1984)
I always felt sorry for Julian Lennon – cursed with those comparisons, looks and voice. And probably it was a very bad idea for him to even bother; to even try. But I like this album. I liked it at the time – that happy bounce to that near-perfect pop song, Too Late For Goodbyes. Some decent balladry too. This album is probably supposed to be filed only and ever in the Guilty Pleasures section. But I’m happy to own it. And own up to it. I was never a diehard fan – I never followed him from here, but I liked this. And once in a while I still do. I’m glad he moved away from music and had some success with photography. I still reckon he was unfairly maligned.
