Frank Sinatra, Watertown (1970)
I’d only just written about this album – I’ve only just discovered it for myself recently – but if you want to know so much about it head here! (amazing site). I’ve been on a bit of a Frank Sinatra trip this year, more so than other years anyway, he’s always something of a presence, but currently he’s far more of a focus than has been the case in a couple of decades…anyway, you find out about some old album you never knew existed, you fall madly in love with it, obsessed with it, and so of course you have to have the LP – it happened for me with Trilogy by Frank this year too (and I was able to go straight out and snap up the vinyl, well not literally snap it up, but you know…) and so I was thinking it would be no such luck with Watertown but here – at the exact same/right time – is the reissue. Lovely effort, beautiful reissue. Watch now as everyone races to tell you how important this album always was, how they knew about it (when they probably didn’t). Anyway, I’m so glad I found this album (twice, in a manner of speaking) this year. So very good. A must-have. Absolutely.
