Neneh Cherry, Buffalo Stance [Single] (1989)
I was pretty chuffed to find this just recently – huge Neneh Cherry fan, loved this song from when I first heard it and kept up with her releases then got hooked again in a big way with the Blank Project album (leading to interviewing her and then meeting her before an amazing gig) but the only vinyl version of this song I had – until finding this 12” single just recently – was from the soundtrack to Slaves of New York (a film I never saw). So it’s good to have this – and though it’s interesting to hear a few other versions (such as the ½ Way 2 House version) I really just love the original. What a great song. What a talent. She was about as gracious and accommodating, a polite and thoughtful as a person could be too. I took my three year old son along to meet her which is, of course, bonkers. Instead of not agreeing to it, instead of being bored or baffled or uninterested she danced with him, made sure he was fed and watered and spent her time waiting to soundcheck the gig by talking to us, connecting, engaging. What a wonderful person – and of course this great talent.
