The Vinyl Countdown # 775

The Pogues, If I Should Fall From Grace With God (1988)
Pogues-asIt was Christmas Eve, babe, in the drunk tank… Tonight I’ll be playing that song from this record down at Turks Bar in Havelock North as part of an all-80s DJ set. I won’t be doing much in the way of Christmas songs but this seems a logical way to end the set when the bar has to close (at midnight) right? I went out and bought the album just to have it for that track for that moment. But I’ve always wanted to have this album. I took a while to come around to The Pogues given I played in an Irish band for years. We played a few Pogues songs – and often. And the requests never stopped. It made me dislike the band for a while. Now I’m several years out the other side of that situation and I can build up a bit of a Pogues collection (I’ve had the compilations on CD – even enjoyed the recent live album) but this album is an absolute classic. Nice to have had the excuse to prompt buying it. Always meant to get a copy one day. Merry Christmas everyone!
