Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, Long After Dark (1982)
A good music book sends you straight to the music, sends you back to favourites and off to reconsider things you never bothered with or dismissed or forgot about…and so it was with Warren Zanes’ excellent Tom Petty bio, a bit of my summer reading. I’ve got a wee thing I do now with music bios, I actually go and pick out all the records related to the book beforehand, and add to that pile as I read. Nerdy? Probably. But you’re reading a post from a series called The Vinyl Countdown where I document the records in my collection and how they arrived. Ask yourself who is the bigger nerd? Me for writing this? You for reading it? Anyway… I had sold a couple of my Tom Petty/Heartbreakers records, moved them on, and maybe that was a bit silly…but you can find them again easy enough. Here’s one I’d forgotten all about – and I got lucky putting this one back on. Certainly better than I ever remembered.
Sample Track: You Got Lucky
