The Vinyl Countdown # 759

Fats Waller, Piano Solos 1929-1941, Vol. 2 (1982)
fat-asRecently I watched – for the first time – the movie Stormy Weather. Genius. I had seen some of the sequences, but amazing to watch it all the way through and think back to that time…I love the music of the 40s, and some of the music from the 30s for that matter. And the film gave me many things to think about, bringing back a lot of names too – including one Fats Waller. A couple of weeks back I find myself in the Newtown Salvation Army Store killing time…my first time in that joint as it happens. And thumbing through the crappy LPs (so many Neil Diamond albums, almost always the way) I found this. I thought about buying it. Then thought I’d leave it, even though it was only a buck or two. I bought a couple of singles, and then as I hummed and harred about this I looked at some $4-5 DVDs. I saw Stormy Weather. It wasn’t any great sign. But it was all the sign I needed. I bought this, took it home…been kicking back with it a bit lately. Some great wee piano tunes here.

Sample Track: Love Me Or Leave Me
FatsThe Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
