The Vinyl Countdown # 753

Eels, Souljacker (2001)
Eelas-as
I liked Eels – the first three albums were great; but I didn’t own any of them at the time (friends had them, I listened in, liked what I heard – looked forward to catching the music vids on the telly…) this is the one, the album that made me a fan. I remember buying this and thinking it was the greatest – or just about. Next day I had gone back and collected up the back-catalogue. I’ll still check out most things by Eels, well everything really – but it’s only the first four albums that have totally stuck with me, and that I have stayed with. Bits and pieces after – and one or two of the albums has even felt really good the whole way through. But not like this. So when I saw the reissued records just recently there was no question: this one was coming home with me. The others? Maybe. One day. But for now I’m in love all over again with this terrific record. Such a great album.

Sample Track: Dog Faced Boy

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
