Amy Winehouse, Back To Black (2006)
I was never as sold on this album as Frank – because I’d discovered Frank first, on my own, felt like I’d found it, this album was the one that was given to everyone – and no, that doesn’t matter, not really. But it did to me at the time. Where Frank contained pencil sketches, this one was heavily outlined, painted (black) thick. Doesn’t mean it’s not good – and with her passing, and the reassessment and years on the clock I enjoy it a whole lot more now. And I’ve changed my opinion on Amy Winehouse hugely. I thought she was great, but not as great as everyone was saying. Now I think she was great and at least as good as everyone was saying. Clearly she could have been even better. R.I.P.
