The Vinyl Countdown # 719

Albert Collins/Robert Cray/Johnny Copeland, Showdown! (1985)
SHowdowBeing a Robert Cray fan at a young age was kinda cool – my mum bought Bad Influence on a whim, next thing the whole family was hooked…and though I was into a lot of other blues guitarists already and certainly after that Cray connection was great in the 80s and early 90s, it got me finding things and making further connections. I got sick of Cray’s albums – and then went back to them (he’s actually pretty dependable, if a little repetitive) and then I found things like this. Again, nothing so special about this, but it probably was my introduction to Albert Collins, one of – anyway. So I got to hear some other great things because of this. I never loved this album but I don’t mind it – because it was a weird little gateway. And so now I look at it as this ‘friend’ that introduced me to other (and often better) friends…so, yeah…quite likely it was  my intro to Johnny Copeland too…

Sample Track: Bring Your Fine Self Home
