The Beatles, Introducing…The Beatles (1964)
I’m not a hound for different versions, for special international pressings, etc – but I’m in America at the moment and we were in a Punk/Hardcore specialist store, cool store. But they have good “other” stuff too – it’s not just all punk and/or hardcore. So then I spy this – the first of the American albums by The Beatles – and I just think I have to have it. I’ve never really felt that way before about anything like this, I’ve seen other American “versions” and releases on previous visits and sometimes as special imports or second-handers back at home too…but anyway, I decide I want to get it. And it’s good. It plays great. And it feels like a good score having it. I had, for a while, thought that Please Please Me was the weakest of The Beatles’ albums and even if it still is – because where do you start with finding/choosing weak-links – but in Oscar’s lifetime I’ve now listened to that and other early Beatles recordings more than I had in years. And there’s still lots to love about those early recordings and albums. So this feels like it’s found the right home.
