Chick Corea, Friends (1978)
I first hooked into this album because much as I knew Chick Corea to be a legend I couldn’t find any really great albums by him – now I know of a small handful, but even now I can take or leave a lot of his playing. This was one of the first – firm – recommendations, it was a doubly good and useful too because I only really knew Steve Gadd for his contributions to rock and pop records and wanted to hear him in more of a jazz-zone. So this was the first album where that happened for me. The record cover is a bit of a classic too – almost worth owning for just that. Just as well the music stands up and grooves too.
