Los Lobos, La Pistola y El Corazón (1988)
This “mini-album” is longer than an EP (9 tracks) but it runs in at just over 25 minutes in length. That’s actually a pretty-perfect listening experience these days. Well, it’s always a pretty perfect listening experience when it’s Los Lobos – almost always anyway. I so love this band. One of my all time favourites and one of very few bands left on my “must-see” list. Was hoping a recent trip to the States would provide a chance to see them – but no. We were on different coasts from one another, opposite schedules. I did however pick up the band’s first Spanish-language album. Which has me remembering this one – their tribute to “Tejano/Mariachi” folk music – almost a reminder, post–La Bamba that, “hey, we don’t just do THAT”. What a band. Magical. Precise. Wonderful. And a shout-out to George Yepes for the cover artwork here. Probably the best Los Lobos album cover.
