The Vinyl Countdown # 494

Midnight Oil, Beds Are Burning [Single] (1987)

of my singles (and even EPs) are for DJing, for playing records out in bars, etc – but sometimes I pick up a single just because I like the song or because it’s a bargain or gifted to me or whatever…and I doubt I would ever “DJ” anything by Midnight Oil (well, maybe Power and the Passion in the right place perhaps) but I’ve found myself attached, in a sense, to this single just recently – that amazing gig and I was listening to a lot of things by the Oils in the lead-up, because their setlist was varying night to night. Still blown away by that show – one of the best of the year, and maybe one of the best ever – and still listening to a lot of Midnight Oil; one of my all-time favourite bands. (The other thing I love about this particular single is that it feels like an ultra-quick run-through of the album being that these tracks are the ‘bookends’).

Sample Track 1: (Side A): Beds Are Burning

Sample Track 2: (Side B): Gunbarrel Highway
