Joe Bonamassa, Live at Carnegie Hall – An Acoustic Evening (2017)
I’ve never understood Joe Bonamassa’s popularity. He’s graceless – it’s meat’n’spuds playing. He’s not great – and even though he’s more than competent I spot not an inch of soul nor even grit in his playing. Here’s a triple-LP, an acoustic, 9-piece band (which is kinda ridiculous – “unplugged” but with loads of backup, doesn’t seem to play quite right). I reviewed this album in this way – not a correct review. But The Spinoff did not publish my Facebook feed and people did not get angry about Joe Bonamassa not being treated right. Because he’s not a Kiwi and not flavour of the month and not ‘cool’ – so no one gives a fuck. It’s funny in a way. And also it’s not.
