Genesis, Wind & Wuthering (1976)
One of my favourite things about this one is that Phil Collins is listed as playing drums and cymbals. How clever. (Probably gets paid by the component, the more things listed the more he earns…) I love Collins’ drumming. And so that alone keeps me going back to Genesis. And I love all eras of Genesis, from when they morphed into a slick, stadium pop act, all the way back to the fox-heads and masks and Peter Gabriel doing his concept-art stuff. But just recently it’s been the, I guess, “middle” period that has kept me most captivated. When Collins is the singer but they’re not at all chasing the charts. There’s magic across their whole career but certainly this mid-70s stuff is my favourite. For now.
