Roy Orbison, You Got It [Single] (1989)
The Big O – Roy Orbison – a one in a million voice and a backstory of personal heartbreak. This big single comes from his final victory lap – what a send-off he got, and deserved. What a legend. I first heard all of this stuff – the Mystery Girl album and The Wilburys and such. And obviously I knew a few of his really big songs from his early career but then going back to the Greatest Hits and early rock’n’roll era was a total revelation. One of the all-time greatest. And a voice you can never forget. I bought this single fairly recently – part of a personal campaign to collect up more of Roy Orbison’s work on vinyl I guess. Also this song had a huge impact on me as a kid. It wasn’t what my friends were listening to – but I didn’t care. In fact I’ve never cared about that. Happy to be part of the crowd. Just as happy not to be. It’s about the music and whether it speaks to you or not. This tells me what I want to hear and all I need to know.
