The Vinyl Countdown # 431

Darren Cross, _Xantastic (2016)
a1915323988_10I’m still working through a small pile of records from a recent trip to Australia. Darren Cross has made music under a few different names/guises – firstly as Gerling, also as The E.L.F. and most recently as one half of JEPANDDEP – and I am digging their new album quite a lot. But a couple of years ago he made this – a solo album. Which is one of those solo albums by a band guy where it kinda goes all over the map, in the best possible way. Okay, stylistically it’s a singer/songwriter album – ultimately. Not that weird, or anything. But there’s a few different styles happening here. And it all works. He’s a clever guy and I’m really enjoying the ride here…

Sample Track: Just Got Along (la la le)

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
