Donna Summer, On The Radio: Greatest Hits – Volume I & II (1979)
Donna Summer was one of the queens of 1970s radio – her disco-fied pop, R’n’B and funk was everywhere for me growing up in the early 1980s, on radio and via the records my folks had. And I have no idea how long I’ve had this record – but it’s been a long time; a double, two volumes of hits. Some from the 70s. Some from the 80s. It runs out of steam a little but the bangers are super great. I also always appreciated the visual pun of the title and cover combo On The Radio! And there she is sitting on a radio. Lol. Not funny. But funny. The song is one of her absolute classics for me. Obviously everyone loves the other stuff – including the Hot Stuff – but I am here for he title track to this collection mostly. And I had a few other Summer records, I’ve sold them now but I still have the 12” of her classic, I Feel Love. That’s here too – albeit in its reduced (original album) form.
