The Vinyl Countdown # 418

David Bowie, Ashes to Ashes [Single] (1980)
download
Hard to pick one favourite David Bowie song right? Impossible. And no need. Just enjoy so many of them…but I’ll bite. If I had to pick just one – it’s going to be this. Only because it always feels great hearing this – it’s a song you can DJ and it pops nicely, it’s a song you can enjoy on your own, it always sounds terrific. Again, there’s loads of other Bowie songs that meet that criteria, but this is one of those magical songs for me where – as a kid – I was just transfixed. And some days, when I’m lucky, I still get that feeling. The b-side is from Lodger rather than Scary Monsters, I guess because this was the lead single. So it was about promoting one song only and no teasers beyond that. (Or something along those lines). I picked this single up only recently. Someone was selling a second-hand copy. Seemed like a good thing to nab. I started playing it at the wrong speed. And as an instrumental track it sounded amazing. No so much when the vocals came in of course…

Sample Track 1: (Side A): Ashes To Ashes

Sample Track 2: (Side B): Move On
