The Vinyl Countdown # 344

Avantdale Bowling Club, Avantdale Bowling Club (2018)
I was sold on this on first listen – I’ve liked most of what Tom Scott has done ahead of this project, but this is the one. And in fact when I reviewed the album I talked about it being the local-act album of the year; more than that one of my favourite albums of the year. I think it’s the beginning of Tom Scott as a real writer too, not just a very good rapper – not merely an MC that spits out zingers. But a poet. Short-story writer. Social commenter, columnist. Journalist even. Ha! I’m sure he’d love that. I met Tom when I sat down to talk with him for my podcast. We had a good yarn. And then shortly after that, a day or two on, the record store put up a post saying they had a copy or two left. That was all. I jumped on the Facebook to message a.s.a.f.p. “Please hold one for me!”  I was down there 15 minutes later. This – the double LP features a few extra tracks, some jazzy instrumentals – hasn’t been off the turntable very often since. A triumph of a record/project. (I believe the vinyl is all sold out. Two print-runs even. Deserved).

Sample Track: Years Gone By
The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
