The Vinyl Countdown # 340

Grady Tate, By Special Request (1974)
Grady Tate – simply one of my all-time favourite drummers, and I got to write a bit about that and a bit about him in memorial. Sad that so often we mark these moments only after a person has gone. And shortly before Tate died I got rather hooked on his crooner albums from the 70s – stepping out behind the kit and singing the evergreens. I love that stuff. So it was good to find this the other day; a compilation of material from a couple of albums – and I’ll keep looking for those original records, sure, but this will tide me over for a bit. His version (one of so many) of Randy Newman’s I Think It’s Going To Rain Today is a gem. The theme from M*A*S*H too! So many simple, sweet, lovely songs…

Sample Track: After The Long Drive Home

The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
