Ramones, It’s Alive (1979)
The Ramones are likeAC/DCfor me – in that it feels like they’ve always just been there. Doing the same song, serving it in the same way, the same setting. And I’ve been a fan forever but I’m not a hardcore, more a fairweather fan. In the case of both bands I own a few records and know of a few more but I come back to just one or two. Always. With Ramones it’s this. And of course that classic debut record. But this was the first album I owned, and indeed it was one of the very first records (LP) I owned. I bought it ridiculously cheap and it plays just fine and stays with me still – this giant collection of 2-minute songs. All recorded in 1977 but released a couple of years later. All taken from the band’s first three albums. Good times. It might be a simple formula, but no one was ever able to do it better. That goes for AC/DC and its formula too. Legends.
