Joe Cocker, Double Cocker Power! (1972)
I have a lot of Joe Cocker compilations – which kinda sits neatly alongside the fact that I saw Joe Cocker live in concert a lot. That was largely the occupational hazard of being a live gig reviewer in a time when Cocker would tour here a lot. But he was always enjoyable. I think this is the best of the Cocker comps I’ve heard. And this was just a hand-me-down, I think all of my Joe Cocker records are hand-me-downs. But a while back I bought up the first few albums on CD; so good. He was so fucking good across the late 1960s and early 1970s. And that’s what is captured here on a double album. Brilliant song selections, great bands/musicians and that voice. Rippingly good.
