Pixies, Doolittle (1989)
It’s funny how a concert can ruin a band for you – when I saw the Pixies, finally, in 2010 (and playing this album in its entirety)I fell out of love with the group almost instantly. I’ve barely listened to them since. I grew up loving the band and I had all the albums and the compilations as well (even though I didn’t really need them, but that Death To The Pixiesin particular was a classic flat-soundtrack). I’ve kept the Doolittle album – and I do sometimes play a song or two from it but I can’t remember the last time I made it the whole way through. Weird, I know. But I just hated that concert. All soulless and cash-grabby and all of us there, fucking suckers. I hated myself for being there. And hated the band more for their lacklustre performance.
