The Vinyl Countdown # 267

Beastie Boys, The In Sound From Way Out! (1996)
I’m never not loving the Beastie Boys – but right now I’m right back into them, the 30th Anniversary of Paul’s Boutique had me sharing some memories – just how important this band has been in my life. And this instrumental compilation – which sorta deeply legitimised them, as producers and players and tastemakers, was a big part of my journey. I bought so many CD copies, I’d given them away. (And lose them). I bought them as presents, I’d take them to bars, ask them to play the album – then leave them there; a gift! Anyway, I used to have this on vinyl but I sold it, traded it, because I hated the double-LP status. Flipping sides after just three (short) songs. It bugged me. I couldn’t get into it. It ruined my love of the album for a while. So now I have the single-LP version and I’m just back in the zone, back in love with this. It’s a whole new experience all of a sudden. Funny how that happens. Such a great set of tunes, cleverly compiled. Winning music. And a really significant part of the soundtrack of my life from one of my all-time favourite bands.

Sample Track: Ricky’s Theme
The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
