The Young Rascals, Groovin‘ [Single] (1967)
It’s funny – I only first heard the album “Groovin’” by The Young Rascals last year (as part of the 1001 Albums Challenge I decided to put myself through) but this song was big in my life because, at one point, the soundtrack to Tour of Duty was huge in my life. This was – massively – where I bonded with my parents, musically speaking. They had introduced a lot of great music to me already but once the Tour of Duty soundtrack and other Vietnam-era/60s-revival compilations struck a big market in the late 1980s and into the 1990s it was even-keel; I was finding things to introduce to my parents just as much as they were finding things to show to me. I bought this single a couple of years back in Auckland at the Flying Nun record store. They have some good old vintage singles on sale. It’s a nice store. I don’t get there often but I’ve bought one or two things each time I’ve visited.
