Laurie Anderson, Mister Heartbreak (1984)
How do you explain how great Laurie Anderson is – or even who and what she is as an artist. Polymath. Well, that’s a start. As for me – and a start with Laurie Anderson. I don’t even know. She’s just someone that’s always been there. Artist. Multifaceted and multi-layered. Visual arts and music. And just someone you idolise and adore. I mean, yes, there was – and still is – O Superman and every time I hear it it remains a mad revelation. But where did she come from and where is she going. We’ll almost never know. Which is why we listen and read and watch and learn. Deeply. Drinking from the well. She’s one of the greatest as far as I’m concerned. I had this on CD. Lost it. Way back. So just recently I’ve bought the album – and it feels like a whole new thing. A new album. A brand new album. And yet it’s 35 years old. That’s (part of) her genius.
Sample Track: Excellent Birds
