Roger Miller, This Is…Roger Miller (?)
How many Roger Miller records do you need? The answer is: 1 more than you think…I bought this a couple of weeks ago in a sallies-store, thrift-shop vinyl for the standard $1, and I’m very happy I picked it up. I’m not-not-a-fan-of Roger Miller…would be the best way to describe it I guess…but turns out this compilation has plenty of the goods on it – I’ve always loved My Uncle Used To Love Me But She Died (for its sheer madness) but I really love the versions Miller offered of Ruby Don’t Take Your Love To Town and Me & Bobby McGhee. He had a tone of voice and style that worked. I like plenty of his songs, it turns out. And many of them are here. Including a few I didn’t know and didn’t already have. So that’s a dollar well spent.
