The Vinyl Countdown # 234

The Beach Boys, Honkin’ Down The Highway [Single] (1977)

I’m on a massive Beach Boys kick right now, if you’re a regular reader of any of my pages you’ll know that already – I come and go with the band in terms of listening, a bit like The Beatles and other artists I care a lot about – you work through the whole catalogue, park it for a bit and figure you have all those songs in your head and/or heart and then something triggers you and you’re back, almost hearing them with fresh ears. It’s great. It’s a blessing and maybe sometimes a curse (at least to the people you share a house with…) Anyway, I’ve long been a fan of Beach Boys Love You but am particularly passionate about it now so until I can find a copy of the full album on vinyl I went hunting for singles and found this. A treat because the b-side, in particular, is one of the all-time crack-up so-bad-it’s-good songs for me. Love this band. Love Brian Wilson.

Sample Track 1: (Side A):  Honkin’ Down The Highway

Sample Track 2: (Side B): Solar System
The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
