Mozart: Private Collection (1977)
Was having a wee ramble with my father-in-law just the other night about how Mozart really was the great pop-song melody writer even before we had “pop songs” – and that, in fact, that was exactly why I got hooked on Mr Wolfgang Amadeus. A book or two and a movie or two – and many pieces in various soundtracks – all helped. But the main thing was a tape called “The Best of Mozart”; a budget “Greatest Hits”. Well, this is a slightly more sophisticated version of the same thing. Just the big bad bangers – the great; the obvious Mozart moments. Where lush melodies are piled atop one another and it’s just creamy goodness all the way down from there.
