Rosanne Cash, Somewhere In The Stars (1982)
I love Rosanne Cash. Always have really. But, funny thing, given how I discovered here, I’ve kinda worked backwards, still finding out about some of the great early records – like this. She is a great singer, a great songwriter, and when she picks a song to cover, like her old man I guess she nails it, makes it her own. So I love the version of How I Got To Memphis that’s on this one; because I love most versions of that song anyway (and her old man pops up at the end too which is also kinda cool). And I love most things Rosanne Cash does with a song – cover or original. But what a hot streak she was on across the early 1980s eh. This is my current fave. And yes, I say “hot streak” and yet it never really went away. She certainly has been on a roll again throughout the 00s. I loved her wee book of short-stories she wrote too. I’m going to buy up more of her records but I’m stuck at the moment on this one and the earlier Seven Year Ache. Like I say, what a hot streak!
