Just when I think I might not need any more Willie Nelson albums I stumbled on this! A split album featuring Willie’s songs on side one and Dave Grusin’s score on side two to a film I have not seen. The Electric Horseman. Now I want to see it! Also Jane Fonda and Robert Redford in the late 1970s = yes! I may actually never get to seeing the film but I’m enjoying the score a great deal – Willie’s classic songs (Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys) and Grusin’s disco-era score (The Electric Horseman) make for slightly odd bedfellows when you don’t have the context – but I kinda like that. A record of two halves for sure. I’m probably going to end up enjoying this mostly as A Willie Nelson EP – a really great Willie Nelson EP.
Sample Track 1: Midnight Rider (Willie Nelson)
Sample Track 2: Electro-Phantasma (Dave Grusin)
