Paul McCartney, Pipes of Peace (1983)
Of all the Paul McCartney material to be reissued this is the one I hated the most hearing it the second time around – I had lost love for it, rather than gained any. And I say that as a fan of the title track purely because my intermediate teacher brought it to our classroom and tried to introduce the class to it and it felt like I was the only one that gave any sort of a shit about it. Also say say say what you want about Michael Jackson these days but his duet with Paul on the song Say Say Say is solid-af. There are some other good songs, too – but it’s by no means misunderstood nor one of the greats. A bit filler, a bit lightweight, a bit struggly, I can’t get on board with it. But it sits in the collection still. Almost never to be re-listened to in one go, but still there. Because I can’t let go of it. Not yet.
