Tower Of Power, Tower Of Power (1973)
I saw Tower Of Power play a few years ago. Great gig – but it was also the final stop on a celebratory wine tour. A mate runs a tour-company and took us out after his first year in business. We started with a champagne breakfast and never really stopped. By 10.30 we were so drunk we bought a Jacqueline Fraser artwork. Lunch was liquid and it flowed all day. We ended up at the Tower Of Power concert and most of what I remember now is running through the audience yelling (repeatedly) “David Garibaldi! David Garibaldi!” Makes sense though – he was my reason for checking the band out to begin with. Picked up this self-titled album – the band’s third release – recently at one of those record fairs; the one they have at the Southern Cross every now and then. Got it for a fiver. Bargain. I flipped through those cardboard boxes hoping for just one bargain. I found a few but when I got to Tower Of Power I shouted out “David Garibaldi! David Garibaldi!” – in my head this time. Fortunately for all.
