Billie Holiday, Body & Soul (1957)
After getting Lady In Satin I’ve decided to start collecting up the Billie Holiday original albums – so this was the next one on the list. I just love her voice so much. And her sad story is wrapped up in the telling of so many of these songs. (You know I even wanted to name a girl Billie, if we were to have another child). I had some of the albums on tape, plenty of compilations on CD and now I’m collecting them all up – all that I can find, when I find them – on vinyl. I think she might be the great voice of the 20th Century for me. Certainly one of my all-time favourites. Such heartbreak in that voice. It’s impossible not to hear it.
