The Vinyl Countdown # 183

Jim Reeves, Am I That Easy To Forget  (1973)
I guess the simple answer is…yes! I almost never think of Jim Reeves – I forget for instance that he was dead by 40 – or that his voice was so velvet. It was good to find this in the collection, buried in there from an acquisition of pretty much someone’s whole collection; there was a lot I didn’t want and then about 30-40 I put in a pile to work through with time. Lots of country and easy listening and I’m still getting to it. I have owned at least one other Reeves album but I can’t say I’ve given it (or him) any time at all really, maybe because we grew up with it hovering at the beach over summer – the sound of the grandparents’ caravan. I’m older now than Reeves was when he died, and I don’t see that (even if anyone else absolutely does) when I look at the cover of this album. But I’m ready now to listen. I kinda love this. Beautiful arrangements and songs, great voice. A lot to admire. It’s good to keep ears open eh, to keep listening; keep learning…

Sample Track: Welcome To My World
The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
