The Vinyl Countdown # 182

V/A, The Wonderful Wireless (1982)
I love the nostalgia records, the various compilations that tell you about eras and movements from before you were born; comedy records, old radio shows, the bygone era. My record collection is full  of them, many inherited, some I have sought out. I’ve always been intrigued by the medium of the LP and the medium of radio – and here, as on other records in my collection, they are combined; both are celebrated. This Australian collection of speeches and comedy bits, character pieces and radio drama was researched and compiled by Glenn A. Baker – one of the great Australia rock writers. A broadcaster, historian, journalist – I’ve been reading his work since I was a kid. And following his name and face to any place I can find – including now following his posts on Facebook. This record – another “Music World” label gem – turned up in my collection a couple of years ago. I’m really just getting to know it now.

Sample Track: Don Bradman Talks Cricket
The Vinyl Countdown is a document of every LP I listen to, brand new discoveries and old-old favourites; extremely pre-loved, previously abandoned or with the shrink-wrap having just been removed it’s all here at The Vinyl Countdown
