Isabel Beyer & Harvey Dagul, Chicken On A Wall and other piano duets for children of all ages (1982)
About five years ago I bought a stack of records off a guy on Facebook – about 30 from memory and I think it was about a dollar a pop or so – maybe it was $20 for 20-30 records or something like. They were all albums for kids and there was nursery rhyme this and storytime that and I bought them because my son was about three or so at the time and he was really into records and so I thought it’d be good to have a stack of these old-fashioned-y kids records. It didn’t really work – he had very little interest in any of them. And though there were a couple of classic many of them were pretty shithouse – but it was a good enough deal I guess. No issues there. Well, I think this is the last of them – and I knew nothing about this but the cover put me off; turns out this is actually pretty cool, husband and wife duettists playing light classical and nursery-rhyme instrumentals. They can play and it’s a nice selection of tunes but the record is poked. It pops and jumps and though I kinda find that sometimes to be a little endearing (hints back to my childhood) it’s not the case here – the record is ruined. But I’m keeping it – because no one else wants it…at least certainly not the Palmerston North Library. (They’ve made that very clear).
